Dr. Richard Cabotage answers your doubts, inquiries and concerns…

How long does face lift results last?

Having a face lift is nothing permanent. This can only be maintained. However, the results of a good face lift may last up to 10 years or even longer.

How long does it take for a nose job to heal?

Swelling and bruises usually last for a week or two, depending on the type of operation done. Swelling usually lasts longer with open rhinoplasty, such as cartilage and gore tex rhinoplasty.

How will I know if I will be needing cheek implants?

Cheeks that should be augmented are the ones with hollow facial features. Cheeks can become sunken through ageing or because of weight loss. Also, there are some people who lack facial definition. These people will benefit from cheek implants.

Is Blepharoplasty done to remove eye wrinkles?

No. Blepharoplasty is done to remove excess fat and skin on your upper or lower lids only. It is not designed to remove crow’s feet, wrinkles, nor lift the brow.

What procedure is used for lip augmentation?

I use fillers for lip augmentation, such as silicone and fat transfers. Fat transfer is hardly used though. Fillers allow me to determine and incorporate just the exact amount that is necessary for a patient. The amount will depend on the facial structure of the patient. This will be carefully determined to balance his/her appearance.

When is the right time to have a face lift?

face lift or rhytidectomy is usually done for people who are 40-70 years old. During these times, the skin may already full of creases and may already be sagging. However, some people in their 20s also chooses to have plastic surgery, mainly because of correcting hereditary conditions.

Which is the best for nose lift; silicone, gore tex or cartilage?

All of these equally proved their good use for rhinoplasty. However, choosing the perfect implant will depend on your lifestyle, budget, and skin or body sensitivity. Getting a silicone implant is the cheapest among the three. The only risk is that if you have sensitivity to this, your body might reject this foreign body. Reactions might be extreme swelling, drooping, or allergies around the area of your nose.

There are minimal cases reported for silicone rejection. Also, this may be replaced or removed if it’s dislocated or if other risks appear in time. Cartilage rhinoplasty, however, has no rejections reported yet. This is safe, because the material that will be used will be coming from your own body. This is harder to mold, but with an excellent plastic surgeon, this procedure will be successful. Nowadays, a gore tex implant is highy recommended.

Gore tex is the most expensive among the three, yet the results are indeed overwhelming, and also longer lasting. Gore tex is a pervious material, and the tissues can grow inside and around it. This is why the implant is never treated as a foreign object, and eventually becomes a part of your body. Gore tex implants are also easier to mold and very flexible, allowing you to have a more natural looking implant, and allowing you to still participate in extreme sports.

What implant is used for breast augmentation?

The Brazilian material, Silimed, is what I use. Like breast implants, the round and smooth implants are more popular than the others. If the patient chooses to have autologous augmentation, fat transfers may also be done. This is done by harvesting excess fat from a body part and placing it to the buttocks.

What is the timeline or healing period for breast augmentation?

Breast augmentations typically heals in 1 to 2 weeks. The bruises usually subside in 2 weeks. Getting back to your normal activities and exercises will take about a month.

What are the usual preparations before undergoing a surgery?

Medications such as aspirin or herbal medicines should be prevented before the surgery, as this increases the bleeding. The blood pressure should also be maintained. Patients with comorbid conditions are not advised to go under surgery. Tests such as getting the bleeding and clotting time are also run before the surgery, in order to know the possible condition of the patient during and after the surgery. There are also specific preparations and precautions that is needed for each type of surgeries.

How long does the sutures stay after surgery?

This will depend on the type of surgery you had. Typically, sutures are removed after 7 days. But for the face, sutures may be removed after in as early as five days. The earlier you remove the sutures, the less conspicuous the scars will be.

How do I know if I’m a good candidate for liposuction?

A good candidate for liposuction is a person who is healthy and has realistic wants and expectations.

What is the best procedure for weight loss, considering that there are numerous procedures for this?

The best and fastest way to lose weight is through liposuction. Although the patient has to maintain it with proper diet and exercise, liposuction offers a quick and effective way for weight loss, breaking down unwanted fats in the body. For patients who doesn’t want to undergo surgery, lipocavitation may be the answer. Compared to liposuction, you need not rest for a period of time and you may continue with your daily routines immediately after the procedure. Mesotherapy, on the other hand, is perfect for small stubborn fats.
